The Career Services Advantage at GTCC

The Career Services Center at Guilford Technical Community College is an important part of the student's path to success. Whether you are undecided about your career or getting ready to graduate, the center offers a variety of services to help students build their futures, step by step.
The Career Services Center offers resources in many forms to guide students through their career journey. The College Central Network, or CCN, is GTCC's online job board linking students with employers. It is free for the student and a great resource in finding jobs, exploring careers and networking.
“Many students think they should only visit career services when they're about to graduate," said Robin Whitesell, Career Services Specialist. “Career planning should begin early. The sooner students engage with us, the better prepared they will be for job fairs, internships and even career assessments.”
In addition to resume writing, some of the other services offered include mock interviews, job search strategies, LinkedIn and how to work a job fair. Career Services personnel also administer career assessments such as the Holland Code, which matches the student's skills and interests to a potential career.
One of the biggest myths about Career Services is that they only help with resumes and cover letters. While these are very important services, the center offers much more. Students can also receive counseling in areas such as networking, establishing a strong online presence and even interview preparation.
Whitesell emphasizes that finding your professional path is an individualized solution. "Your journey is different, and people move at their own pace. Nobody compares to anybody else. Whether you're unsure about your major or seeking a part-time job, we are here to help you."
The motivated student will receive advice, encouragement and some practical tools for success at the Career Services Center. Whether you’re just getting started or nearing graduation, this resource should play an integral role in your education.
